| Scheduling |
Internet connections can be established on a regular
schedule, within working hours and working days. Connection cycle frequency can be automatically adjusted to handle outgoing mail traffic. To keep connection charges low, this can be done after collecting outgoing messages for a certain amount of time. Thus is is not necessary to establish a dial-up connection for each outgoing message. Incoming mail will be checked at the same time. The scheduler can be configured to use a shorter collect interval (or none at all) as soon as a high-priority message is queued. Out of schedule connections can be triggered using the included Remote Control program. This can be done from any machine on your LAN. No tricky operations are required to download urgent mail immediately. |
| Easy administration | The Administrator can watch all activity taking place
remotely, using the Remote Control program. Configuration tasks can be done remotely, from the Administrator's workstation. The Administrator can receive a detailed connection report after each connection, or only if problems occurred. Any incoming or outgoing mail traffic can be logged. A (free) CGI program to query and view the log files is available. Important events are logged to the Microsoft Windows NT event log. Outgoing queue management can be done with the Configuration Program or the included Outgoing Queue Management program, from anywhere in your LAN. |
| Supported POP3 account settings | POP3 accounts used by only one user. POP3 accounts with multiple aliases (such as Name1@company.com, Name2@company.com, etc.), each alias being used by one user. POP3 accounts receiving all mail for a certain internet domain name go into this category. POP3 accounts with only one email address (such as Company@isp.com), used by several users. And, in this case, mail sent by these users has the correct reply-address (specialists know that this is a real issue...) "Supported" also means that incoming messages can be routed directly to the final destination. Please see below for more details. |
| Incoming mail | An internal mailbox can get mail from
several POP3 accounts. Message headers are preserved. Users are able to use the "reply" function with messages received through PYTHEAS MailGate. You may choose not to delete the messages on the POP3 server; this should be useful for roaming users, or people who read their mail from more than one location. PYTHEAS MailGate keeps track of the messages to avoid multiple downloads. Optionally, messages beyond a certain age may be removed, to keep your mail account tidy. You may set a size limit for incoming messages. The mail administrator and the addressees will be informed about the presence of such a message. Incoming messages can be content-checked and intercepted. This includes checking for attachments with a certain name or extension, for keywords appearing in the message subject or inside the HTML source code, or the sender's address. A tool lets you try out your content-checking mechanism with messages constructed on-the-fly. |
| Outgoing mail | Outgoing mail is queued by the built-in
ESMTP server. This allows to collect outgoing mail for a certain amount
of time, and then send it all at once, to keep connection charges
low. Outgoing queue management can be done with the Configuration Program or the included Outgoing Queue Management program, from anywhere in your LAN. The sender of a message can get a notification when a message is successfully sent, or when a message could not be sent for a certain amount of time. Notification delays can be adjusted separately for high-, normal- and low-priority messages. PYTHEAS MailGate can identity itself to your ISP's SMTP relay server, by going through a AUTH LOGIN procedure being part of the ESMTP protocol extensions. A default message size limit can be set, either manually or automatically (by using the the limit announced by your ISP's SMTP relay server). You can further set a size limit, depending on the sender of the message. A message can be "frozen" for some time in the queue - manually, or automatically depending on message size or priority. PYTHEAS MailGate can systematically append a text to outgoing messages; useful to add a disclaimer. Plain text and HTML text formats are supported. Outgoing messages can additionally be sent to an Archive folder. |
PYTHEAS MailGate provides a suite of management facilities to your Small Business Server 2000 or Exchange Server 2000 corporate email system which allows you to make use of these advanced products within your business without having to upgrade to expensive corporate email connections from the Internet.
